Iowa Flood Relief Auction

Hello friends,

I'm sure most of you have heard about the devastating flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As of June 16, damage estimates have exceeded ONE BILLION ($1,000,000,000) dollars. In a town of only 120,000 people, this is beyond catastrophic.

Thousands of animals have been left homeless by the flood. The Cedar Rapids animal shelter has been completely destroyed. Many people had to abandon their pets when they evacuated their homes, and it is unclear when--if ever--they will be reunited.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The independent artisan community is coming together with an exciting auction to benefit the "Friends of the Animal Shelter" fund via the Kirkwood Foundation (tax ID 23-7076632), which is the fundraising division of the college currently serving as the evacuation center for abandoned animals. There are several hundred dogs, even more cats, and other companion animals being housed there, and many, many more animals are still stranded in the thousands of abandoned homes in Cedar Rapids. This auction will take place from June 25-July 2, and further details are available at http://www.iowafloodreliefauction.com/.

In the meantime, you can support the Friends of the Animal Foundation for the Iowa City animal shelter (also affected by the flood) by donating at:

Please forward this message to your friends and join me in supporting the needs of the displaced animals in Iowa. Together, we can raise awareness and much-needed resources for a community currently in a state of despair.

Thank you,

SBS Teas

What a Wonderful Year!

In April 2007 I followed my dreams and decided to jump feet first into becoming a tea business owner. I purchased SBS Teas from the former owner and it has been non stop since then!! I have always had a fascination with "all things tea." My grandmother and I used to have great elaborate tea parties with my dolls. I fell in love with the ceremony of having a proper tea. As I grew older I never outgrew my love of "all things tea." I especially love having the opportunity to travel around the world and participate in all different kinds of tea experiences--from very proper in London, England to very quaint in Williamsburg, Va. Every tea room has its own charm and character.
I am getting ready to retire from a career in teaching after 30 years and wanted something to do to keep me busy and out of trouble when I have more time on my hands--enter the option of an on line tea business!! This seemed like the perfect thing for me. All the tea but no dirty dishes!!!
As I celebrate the 1 year anniversary of SBS Teas, I want to thank all of our loyal customers who have stayed with us and to all of our many new customers who have found out how wonderful our teas and customer service are. MANY, MANY THANKS also to my lovely daughter Sharon for minding the store for me until I retire!!! We have both had some amazing experiences and met some wonderful people along the way. I can't wait to see what the next year has in store!
Sincerely,
Lady Babs

Holiday Memories

With the holidays fast approaching it is easy enough to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. Please remember to take time for yourself to relax and remember all of the happy memories of past holidays. I like to sit with the lights lit on the tree, soft Christmas music playing on a cd, and a cup of warm tea or coffee in my hand. The smells and aromas of holiday baking and scents associated with Christmas and the holiday season can help you remember some wonderful memories. When I brew Gingerbread Cream tea from our 12 Teas of Christmas set my mind goes back to days when my Mom would bake gingerbread cookies and the aroma of freshly baked cookies would fill the house. This is what the holidays are all about, the love of family and friends.

We also have the 12 Coffees of Christmas for all of your favorite coffee drinkers. These sets would make great gifts for any tea or coffee lover on your gift list.

I am sure each scent, aroma, or smell will evoke memories of things from your past holidays. What a wonderful way to celebrate the season--remembering the good times and hopefully creating new memories for years to come!!!

A cup of our holiday blends will have you singing Jingle Bells!!!

Mom, me and a cup of tea

The official day to recognize mothers is just around the corner.

While it is important to remember our mom's all year round, this is a special time to really shine and show her how much you love her. Sometimes we have other "mom's" that we have been nurtured by as well. Be sure to remember them as well.

If your mom is anything like mine, she's probably accumulated a LOT of stuff over the years. Maybe instead of stuff this year, throw a special tea party or give the gift of tea. Memories are more valuable than anything you can give. And so many wonderful memories have been forged over a cuppa tea!

Here are some ideas for enjoying a lovely simple cup of Tea on Mother's Day.

Tea ideas, grab your favorite tea mugs
Samovar Blend Tsarina Tea
Iced Strawberry White Tea
Absolutely Fabulous Tisane
Set out a few tasty treats like
2 Pack Walker Shortbread Finger Cookies or Dark Chocolate Mint Sticks

Bring out your family photo album featuring classic moments with your mom and family. Enjoy your time together remembering pleasant memories from the past.
